I was kind of confused by the fact that everyone is calling "Wes Anderson's best feature film of his career" which brought to me a lot of expectations. Visually This film jumps all over Europe, and all over time, showing us the Grand Budapest Hotel in it’s prime and glorious days of prestige (the 1930’s), as well as it’s later state of The Grand Budapest Hotel is not exactly a feel-good movie. At times it is wistful and melancholic, for the (illusion of a) civilized world “sustained with a marvelous grace” by Gustave came to an end eventually—succumbed to war and diseases. The key essence that sets The Grand Budapest Hotel apart lies in the protagonists. Flawed as the I absolutely love the script, direction, score and performances by the entire cast, especially Ralph Fiennes as M. Gustave. If you absolutely hate Anderson films, you probably won't like this one. With this being rated R and Moonrise being rated PG, this film is definitely darker, which makes the film more humorous imo. The value placed upon art and literature in The Grand Budapest Hotel is further demonstrated by the main plot point in our primary storyline with M. Gustave and Zero in 1932. Though the film begins with a book in the present day, the major storyline centers around M. Gustave and his alleged inheritance of “Boy with Apple” a priceless 08. Józsefváros, Budapest.
